“It is impossible to sell others on something that you aren’t sold on yourself.”Pat Petrini
You don’t have to be in the direct sales industry too long to experience your first rejection. In fact, you will probably experience it from those closest to you as soon as you tell them about what you are starting.
And if you are not properly equipped for this, it can be crushing. I believe that this is why most people quit before they even get anywhere.
But what if I told you that there’s an antidote to this? That there’s something you can do to rejection-proof your heart and in turn build a thriving business?
How I came to build belief
When I first started my social selling business I had very little experience and knowledge about the social selling industry.
I just knew that I saw the potential in it, and I appreciated the promise of time flexibility that the industry offers.
However, I didn’t anticipate the level of daily rejection and personal insecurities that arose because of this.
Until I learned about this concept – BELIEF.
I stumbled upon this concept one day when listening to a training by Jessica Higdon. She simply stated that in order to succeed in this industry, you had to decide that this would work for you, then cultivate belief in:
- The Industry (Did you know that the direct selling industry produces more millionaires than any industry?
- Your products/opportunity ( Do you REALLY love your company’s vision + are passionate about the products?)
- Yourself (Do you believe you are worthy of more and can do it?)
Once I learnt this, I got on a quest to discover how I can strengthen my belief in myself, my business and the industry.
The 5 ways to build and strengthen your belief.
- Attend/ host company events
Working from home often means working alone, and then virtually with others. This can get lonely quickly. But then comes company events. These are a great way to be in the same room and connect with like-minded people. Nothing beats hugging and listening to each other’s stories. This is one of the quickest and easiest ways to strengthen your belief in your products and opportunity.
- 2. Plug into the online community
This point is sort of similar to the one above. Most teams have teams pages/trainings where everyone can get information and ask questions. I’ve found that people that actively engage in these team groups tend to grow more, than those that silently observe or don’t engage at all. You don’t have to be in team pages all day, but you can pick a frequency that you can sustain, and then check-in. This way you’ll get to see what others are doing, their wins and struggles, and there’s no affirming belief bigger than this.
- 3. Do the work
You know how they say the dream’s free but the hustle is separate? So true. Getting results from your actions, no matter how small, is one way of giving yourself, and some people watching you, proof that your products and business is legit. Take all the tips and tricks from events, trainings and books – and implement them. This is how you strengthen your belief.
- 4. Avoid negativity
This one’s straightforward. People’s experiences are different, so you’ll always find negative reviews about your products/opportunity. You HAVE to decide who you are going to listen to, and if you are a positive person, avoid those negative sources of information. It doesn’t take much to shake your belief, especially if you are starting out, so it’s important that you focus your energy and attention to those people and information that builds up your confidence.
5. Amp up your personal development
There’s a saying that your business will only grow as much as you grow, and I’ve found it to be true. According to Think International, personal development is simply growing those skills, abilities, qualities and traits available for you. There are many ways to go about this in the day that we live in – books, podcasts, therapy, courses etc. What personal development will do for you is help you become the leader that you are meant to be, and to rise above any mental blocks stopping you from reaching the level of success that you desire.
Build your belief and you are halfway there!
